PROFILE

Shaun Whitlock is a solicitor specialising in construction and engineering. He began his career over 25 years ago  as a trainee quantity surveyor for major civil engineering contractors on large scale roads, bridges and power generation projects, Before becoming a lawyer Shaun qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and then practiced as a construction contracts consultant with Knowles where he  was elected as an Executive Director in 2003. Shaun has an MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration, the Graduate Diploma in Law and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2007. Shaun is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an Accredited Adjudicator.

KEY STRENGTHS

Shaun is a highly experienced legal and contractual advisor, his particular strengths being in the analysis and interpretation of construction contracts, pleadings and submissions in litigation, adjudication and arbitration proceedings, together with representation and advocacy in such proceedings.. In addition, Shaun provides general commercial and contractual advice to employers, contractors and sub-contractors alike, including non-contentious services such as drafting contracts, binds, guarantees and other agreements. In addition he provides a general appraisal of claims in relation to breaches of contract and variations. He has also lectured extensively throughout the UK on construction contracts and commercial issues. Shaun also provides employment law advice to his existing construction clients.

Shaun has recently advised a joint venture building contractor towards reaching financial close on a major hospital PFI project and has also provided post FC support in the drafting of contracts and agreements, advice upon the interpretation of the building contract and upon specific matters arising which affects his client. In addition, Shaun has advised a contractor upon the public procurement process associated with a rail tender and also successfully reduced a claim from client’s employee against the client in the Employment Tribunal. Shaun continues to provide advice upon a wide range of matters including payment disputes, defects claims and disputes concerning the terms of contracts.
