PROFILE

Barry Manie is a chartered Civil and Structural Engineer with legal training. He is a non-practising Barrister in England and Wales. Barry is also a Chartered Arbitrator and registered Adjudicator.

After initially training and working as a civil and structural engineer, working for contractors and consultants in the design and management of various civil engineering and building projects in the UK and overseas, Barry spent a substantial period with property development companies engaged in a wide range of activities throughout the development process - from site acquisition to the sale and management of completed buildings, and acting as the client's representative / project manager of multi-disciplinary design and construction management teams.

For more than 10 years, Barry has developed his career in the management, avoidance and resolution of disputes in all sectors of the construction industry, advising clients on contractual issues, investigating and analysing claims, and acting as party representative in mediation, adjudication and arbitration proceedings. Barry has also acted as expert advisor on project management and structural engineering matters, and has had a number of appointments as arbitrator (CIArb and DIAC nominations), adjudicator (ICE, CIArb, CIC, CEDR and direct party nominations) and expert determiner (ICE nominations) in a range of construction and property disputes.

Overseas experience in Saudi Arabia, Portugal, South Africa, Dubai (U.A.E), Venezuela.
