Ashton is an experienced solicitor based in our London office. He has over ten years of experience in dealing with complex disputes with values which range to over £100m.

KEY STRENGTHS

Construction - Ashton acts for a number of developers, contractors and specialist subcontractors, resolving construction and engineering disputes. He is experienced in resolving claims for payment, loss and expense, delay, prolongation, acceleration, defects, variations, and collecting outstanding retentions. Ashton has dealt with complex and high-value construction litigations, arbitrations and adjudications. He has dealt with construction matters in international arbitration and construction-related insolvency, as well as cases involving professional negligence of architects, engineers and surveyors. He has also advised upon insurance and performance bonds and has made successful claims on such bonds.

Property - Ashton acts for a number of freeholders of long leasehold properties. He advises upon service charge disputes, breach of lease, lease extension and enfranchisement matters. He has considerable experience in dealing with such matters, both in court and before the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal. Ashton also deals with property related insolvency matters.

Party Walls and Boundaries - Ashton is one of the few legal experts in the country to advise extensively on Party Wall Act matters. He advises developers and Building Owners on the requirements of the Party Wall Act and frequently works with appointed surveyors to advise upon any issues arising from draft Awards. He advises Adjoining Owners on the validity of notices and deals extensively with High Court injunctions to stop or vary work which poses a risk to neighbouring properties. He has been involved in numerous court claims for damages and has also helped Building Owners and their appointed surveyors/engineers resolve or avoid costly legal proceedings. Ashton has been appointed by insurers to resolve party wall matters where properties were placed at risk due to works to building works. He also deals with related boundary disputes and advises on right to light matters.

Sports/Media - Ashton advises sports and media personalities on contractual matters and deals with the negotiation of contracts and resolution of disputes. He has acted for premiership football players and TV personalities and has set up advertising, sponsorships and image right agreements. Ashton also works with specialist tax and financial advisors to ensure that sports and media clients benefit from suitable advice on issues that may affect the structure of legal matters. Given his other practice areas Ashton is also well placed to advise upon property portfolios and resolve any problems encountered.
