Systech Solicitors to talk at CBI event

February 08, 2011

Ronan Speers, Systech Solicitor’s Director for Ireland, is to present at an upcoming CBI seminar on the Bribery Act.

The event, which will be held at the Ramada Hotel in Belfast on 10 March, will outline what this new law means for your business and explain what you must do to comply with the Act. It will also cover some of the recent criticisms of the Act.

In addition to Ronan there will be speakers from CBI Northern Ireland, Johnsons Solicitors, Deloitte and Marsh. A discussion forum will follow the talk.

From April 2011 it will be a criminal offence to give, offer, agree to receive or accept a bribe at home or abroad. There will also be a new corporate offence of failure to prevent bribery by people working for your company and those working through your network of business relationships – the penalties will be severe. Topics covered will include:

  • When does the Act come into effect?
  • Who is at risk?
  • Where does the Act apply?
  • What are the offences?
  • What are the penalties?
  • What is the defence?
