Systech Solicitors Press Release - First construction sector ABS announced by SRA and Systech International to acquire niche construction solicitors practice

February 20, 2013

The SRA today announced approval of the application of SLS Solicitors Limited (now trading as Systech Solicitors) to operate as an alternative business structure (ABS) under the Legal Services Act.

The approval will allow Systech Group Limited (which trades as Systech International) a leading international construction and engineering consultancy, to acquire Systech Solicitors, which will become part of the Systech Group.  Systech International is a leading commercial management and dispute resolution consultancy with a successful track record on many of the world's major projects.  It was founded over 20 years ago and has 28 offices across the world.

Systech International Managing Director, Mark Woodward-Smith, said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to move further towards our ambition of being the largest and most trusted brand in the Construction and Engineering sector.  This move is the culmination of five years work and was prompted by our clients’ needs and desires for greater efficiency and competition in the legal services sector.  We see this as a huge opportunity to bring innovation, competition and greater choice to the market.”

Systech Solicitors was established five years ago and has become one of the largest niche construction and engineering practices in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.  The acquisition is the first of its kind by a construction and engineering practice and will allow Systech International to offer a unique combination of legal, commercial and technical services to its clients under one brand.

Brian Quinn, Managing Director of Systech Solicitors, said: “The joining of our practice with Systech International will enable a more efficient, innovative approach to legal services in the sector, inevitably driving costs down as waste is eliminated.  Most issues, in the construction and engineering industry whether contentious or non-contentious require a combination of skills; legal, commercial and technical, all of which can now be found within Systech International under a single point of responsibility.  It is a unique offering, the value of which is already being recognized by our clients.”

Stephen Rayment, Group Managing Director, said: “Systech International has over twenty years experience in delivering solutions in the commercial management and dispute resolution markets around the world.  The acquisition of Systech Solicitors provides an opportunity to add legal to our already wide-ranging service offering.  Our pragmatic, commercial, results-driven approach will add a new dimension to the provision of legal services, which I have no doubt will be welcomed by our blue chip client base.”
